Более мягкие синонимы - butt, can, moon.Наряду с fuck и shit это самое распространенное в Америке ругательство. Настолько популярное, что на заборах пишут (см. рис. (К слову ass. Неизвестный граффитоман поиздевался над строителями. Когда в США или Канаде что-то строят, возводят, это называется - development. Снято, между прочим, на территории Университета Британской Колумбии - западного форпоста культуры)). И в нашем словаре это одно из самых частотных слов - встречается, как и shit, более 150 раз (выше показатели только у fuck - более 200 раз).Иногда ass употребляют и в значении "дурак", "растяпа" (см. комментарий к AIRHEAD). Звучит провокационно, задирающе, типа нашего: "Ну ты, жопа!".Иногда это слово используют в значении "телка", "баба" (по понятным мотивам).Но здесь скрыты еще некие лингвистические глубины. Если ass говорят о человеке, то это воспринимается как сокращение от (*) asshole, что уже очень грубо (см. ниже).Вариантов использования много, как и с заслуженным русским местом, на котором сидят. Не только грубые, есть и прикольные, например: to be on someone's ass - оказывать давление на кого-то.Изобилие выражений с ass подтолкнуло нас к идее написания специального труда "Роль ass (жопы) в политической жизни Соединенных Штатов Америки". Ass around — болтаться без дела. Напомним, что ass - слово вульгарное и по экспрессии данное выражение близко, например, к нашему "Лень жопу протрясти". Сказанное относится ко всем словосочетаниям данного словарного гнезда, переведенным мягко.
Asshead — не очень умный, как у нас говорят "Думает тем местом, на котором сидит". (См. AIRHEAD и т.п).
Ass-holed — пьяный совершенно, совсем лыка не вяжет. Здесь есть наше точное соответствие - "пьяный в жопу". Holed - дырявый, русский дословный перевод составьте сами.
Ass-kick — это не "плохой kick (удар)", а удар "по ass" или "под ass" (см. рис. к слову KICK). Отсюда:
Ass-kicker — суровый начальник, вышибала.
Ass-kisser — подхалим, "жополиз" (от kiss - целовать, см. AK).
